William Young

After several attempts at the pottery business in England and Philadelphia, William Young established the Excelsior Pottery in Trenton in 1853. He was a visionary who was the first to produce white earthenware using only American materials. His success transformed Trenton into the primary center for white ware production in the United States, earning him national recognition from the Franklin Institute.
