William R. McKean

First Republican Mayor of Trenton

William McKean was a pioneer in Trenton’s heavy industry as part owner of the company that first manufactured railroad engines in the city. Politically, he holds the historical distinction of being the first Republican ever elected as Mayor of Trenton, serving during the critical early years of the Civil War from 1861 to 1863.
