Samuel R. Hamilton

Samuel R. Hamilton was a man of many firsts: the first Mayor of Trenton elected by a popular vote of the people and the first Democrat to hold the office. A prominent lawyer and newspaper owner, he also served as Quartermaster General of New Jersey for nearly two decades. His distinguished career included serving as legal counsel to Joseph Bonaparte, the ex-King of Spain.
