Capt. Joseph A. Yard

Military Captain & Warden of NJ State Prison

Joseph Yard led a life of incredible diversity. After a career in manufacturing, he served as the Keeper of the New Jersey State Prison. He was a seasoned military leader, raising companies of Trenton men to fight in both the Mexican War and the Civil War. His leadership was instrumental in forming the units that repelled Lee’s invasion of Pennsylvania in 1863.
