Capt. James Olden Paxson
Civil War Hero of the "Die-No-Mores"
Son of a State Treasurer, James Paxson led Company D of the 48th New York Infantry, a unit known as the "Die-No-Mores" for their habit of singing hymns into battle. A man of deep faith, he led his troops in the storming of Fort Wagner, fighting alongside the famous 54th Massachusetts. He was mortally wounded during the engagement, dying in a military hospital shortly after.
